Over the last couple of years our hearts have been periodically stirred towards the need for kids in foster care. For a long time we concluded that our lifestyle wasn't conducive for foster care (homeschooling, travel, our own capacity...etc.).
Last October God began to use various things to compel us to step out in faith to start the process of becoming licensed to be a foster family. We felt that we needed to at least take a step in getting more information in order to make a more informed decision. We went to an orientation meeting on December 4, 2017 and turned in our paperwork on January 8, 2018 and became licensed on May 31, 2018. We decided to wait until the end of the summer before receiving a foster child because of our travels and schedule.
We went on the "open bed list" on Thursday, August 16th and we received a call that evening for an 8 year old girl! We had prayed that the decision to accept or decline would be really clear and it was. We both gave an emotional but hardy "yes" to her coming to our home. She was dropped off around 9 that night and she's been with us now for 9 weeks.
It has been quite an experience! We have seen God in such sweet and specific ways as He has guided and provided and cared for us all. There are highs and lows and and many emotions! We are needy of the Lord in a new way as we learn to faithfully care and advocate for this little girl and simultaneously care for our own family.
"He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it." - 1 Thessalonians 5:24
God is no doubt using this experience to sanctify our family and draw us nearer to Jesus. We covet your prayers as we seek to care well for this girl for as long as she's in our care.
